What to do when anxiety cripples you...

Hey everyone. I hope you are all well. This corona craziness has had some unexpected effects on me and my health. I've been a bit quiet over the last week or two. Let me explain why... I started having some anxiety symptoms about two weeks into the hard lock-down here in SA. Not like, "Oh my gosh, I feel stressed" symptoms, but body aching, headachy fever-like symptoms. Which is strange for me. I've never had this happen before.

So I called my doc and told her I must have come down with something. Something BIG, to which she laughed and told me I've got lock-down syndrome. I didn't take this very well as you can guess 🤣😂🤣. Feeling physically Ill and then being told you've just got anxiety is not what anyone wants to hear. (Basically I had epic Man-Flu). I didn't know that the physical symptoms can be so severe. So she gave me some medication and I've been slowly but surely recovering since then. Hopefully I'll be back to full strength soon. This made me think about how we react to people saying they struggle with anxiety and depression. Most of the time we say "Ag shame skattebol, just think happy thoughts", when in reality that person could be in very real, physical pain or discomfort. Not helpful. But we also need to change the way we think about treatment. If you break your arm, you go to the doctor and get it fixed. You don't say "I just won't think about the pain". No, you go get yourself sorted out. We need to do the same when we are struggling with anxiety or depression. By no means am I saying we just pop pills every time we feel sad. I'm saying that if you can be diagnosed with anxiety or depression, medicine can really help you, just as it did me. You also don't need to go to a psychiatrist for general anxiety and depression. Any good GP will be able to help and guide you through it. I hope this helps someone out there. As always... Much Love J✌️
